Report cards and progress reports will be issued based upon the district calendar. Quarter grades will be determined using summative assessments and formative assessments. Summative assessments will be comprised of unit tests, performance tasks, and quizzes. These assessments are designed to measure content knowledge. A rubric will be provided for any performance based assessment, integrated performance activity, or project.

Formative assessments will be comprised of classwork and homework assignments. The purpose of these assessments is to check for understanding, provide feedback between the teacher and the students, to measure consistency of effort, and to monitor student progress. Effort will be graded in the form of the student’s ability to complete the assignments on classwork and homework (daily grade).

As Spanish is a communicative language, students will be graded on their communication in the target language. On a day to day basis, students are expected to attemptcommunication in the target language when called upon. Unless students are explicitly told that pronunciation and correct answers are the goal, the best attempt at communication is all that is expected.

Grading Percentage and Quality of Work

Grade                        Scale                         Description of Work

A                                  90-100%                  Consistently demonstrates an exceptional level of quality and effort. Having all work in on time                                                                         and completed to exceed expectations. Mastery in current and past content knowledge.

B                                 80-89%                      Consistently demonstrates proficient knowledge with a good effort and quality or work. All                                                                                assignments are complete and on time. Demonstrates knowledge of current and past content.

C                                 70-79%                       Demonstrates proficient knowledge of content. Work shows average effort. A few assignments                                                                          may be missed or late.

D                                 60-69%                      Work shows minimal effort and some assignments are late. Demonstrates a basic                                                                                                  understanding of content.

F                                 Below 60%                Understanding is below basic in relation to content knowledge. Work is of poor quality and                                                                               does not meet standards or expectations.

Class Rules and Expectations

Each of you deserves a comfortable, cooperative classroom environment. To create this, you are responsible to:

1. Be actively involved in all that we do.

2. Treat the people, equipment, and furnishings of our class with respect.

3. Do nothing to hinder teaching or learning.

(In the event that you fail to meet these responsibilities, your actions will have consequences such as verbal warning, parent contact, class separation, detention, disciplinary referral, etc.)

The school wide policy is to follow P.A.R.R. This is an acronym for: Prepared. Attitude. Respect. Responsibility.

Important Note: Cheating of any form will not be tolerated on any work. This includes but is not limited to use of a translator; copying a classmate; having another student, friend, or family member complete work; turning in another student’s work; and not citing sources or copying directly from a book or website. Any indication that any of the aforementioned has taken place is at the teacher’s discretion and will result in a point deduction on an alternate assessment. Failure to complete the alternate assessment will result in a 0. As Spanish is a college prep level course, this policy is strongly enforced.
